A DVLA-compliant registration platform built for scale

The Challenge

Platinum Plates have been trusted suppliers of personalised registration numbers since 2002. We first built their platform in 2016, and over a decade later the business had outgrown it. The new platform needed to handle dual inventory – their own dealer stock alongside live DVLA Fixed Price Registrations – with a fully compliant checkout, modern payment options, a plate valuation service for sellers, and an admin dashboard that gave the team complete control over orders and inventory.

What We Built

Launched in February 2025, the new Platinum Plates platform is a bespoke WordPress and Elementor build – giving the client a powerful, easy-to-edit frontend without compromising on technical depth under the hood.

The platform integrates directly with the DVLA Fixed Price Registrations API, pulling live government stock into the site alongside Platinum Plates' own dealer inventory – all searchable through a single interface. The search experience builds on capabilities inherited and significantly enhanced from the original platform, with autocomplete suggestions helping customers find their perfect plate faster across 70 million+ combinations.

Sellers can request a free plate valuation directly through the site – enquiries are routed to the team who respond personally, keeping the high-touch service Platinum Plates are known for. Postmark powers all transactional emails throughout – from order confirmations and valuation requests to status updates – ensuring reliable, professional communications at every touchpoint.

The checkout is fully DVLA-compliant, with Stripe handling card payments and Klarna offering buy now, pay later options. The admin dashboard gives the team complete visibility across both order management and inventory. GA4 event tracking is integrated throughout, giving the business clear insight into how customers search, browse and convert.
